Pope Leo XIV - An American Gift

A   papal conclave    was held on 7 and 8 May 2025 to elect a new   pope  to succeed   Francis, who had died on 21 April 2025. Of the 135 eligible   cardinal electors, all but two attended. On the fourth ballot, the conclave elected Cardinal   Robert Francis Prevost, the prefect of the   Dicastery for Bishops  and president of the   Pontifical Commission for Latin America. After accepting his election, he took the   papal name  Leo XIV.

Prevost was elected pope on May 8, 2025, the second day of the conclave, on the fourth ballot. White smoke appeared from the Sistine Chapel  at 18:07 CEST , signifying to the public that a pope had been chosen.   After accepting his election and adopting his   papal name, Leo embraced his fellow cardinals upon exiting the Sistine Chapel. Cardinal  Dominique Mamberti, the  cardinal protodeacon, made the traditional  Latin  proclamation,   Habemus papam, announcing Pope Leo XIV to the public for the first time from the central   loggia   of   St. Peter's Basilica. According to    by the time of the    announcement, right before Pope Leo XIV revealed himself, there were up to 150,000 in the square.

Fr. Hank Lanik, Administrator

The Catholic Church of St. Charles Borromeo was established as a Mission in 1997 and elevated to the status of a parish on October 1, 2012 in the Diocese of Tyler, Texas.  On behalf of the 90+ families I welcome you to our website.
We are a warm and generous community comprised mostly of baby boomers and retirees from all over the United States.
We are a Roman Catholic faith community on the shores of Lake Palestine in the Piney Woods and hill country of East Texas,  eighteen miles south of the Tyler Loop.
We receive visitors every week from many different places and are blessed by their worshiping with us.  We are an inclusive community who welcome all in Jesus’ name.
May God’s peace and mercy be with you as you live out your faith commitment in the Catholic tradition
